Open Hallways & Open Hearts

I drove up to the high school late on Saturday to pick up a few things from my classroom so I could keep working over the weekend. I stood outside my room, and the darkened hallway gave me pause.

On the one hand, it’s just a hallway, but as I look down this hall, I see doors to so many classrooms where discussions will blossom, thoughts and ideas will take shape, labs will be conducted, and problems will be solved. More than that, these rooms and these halls will be a place where friendships are formed, life foundations are laid, and young men and women will rise to the calling God has on their lives.

Currently, I am pressed on all sides with planning, prep, and other school-related endeavors, not to mention the craziness of back-t0-school with my own kids. BUT, while I might feel the pressure, like this picture, there are many doors of opportunity. Even though the halls may be dark at times, there is light to be found. God has me and my family exactly where he wants us. He has you and your children where he wants them, too. Keep looking for the doors and keep walking the halls. There is always something to be discovered, some new thing to learn, even if it’s hard.

I am excited to teach with old and new teachers, have old and new students, and embark on a new year. Here’s to the reading of great books, the growing in the craft of writing, the discussions of truth found in story, and the seeking of God’s heart! See you in class!
